I found out about this book by reading the author's note in a book by Gabrielle Meyer called For A Lifetime. The Salem Witch trials have always piqued my interest. It's a time period that sometimes I can't even believe happened, almost like the Holocaust. Here's my review:
This is the exact kind of historical book that I enjoy reading! Yes, there are tons of facts. Yes, it gets a little boring. That's history folks. What I like about Emerson's approach is that he made me feel connected to the people accused of witchcraft. He also delves into possible reasons for the possession; poverty, religious differences, land squabbles, mental illnesses, and even people who lied and pretended to be possessed.
The lists at the end touched my heart. Just seeing the names of those accused and knowing that a lot of them lost their lives. I intend to read more books about this subject as it has always interested me. My favorite book as an adolescent was "The Witch of Blackbird Pond. " If you haven't read it, you should!
Here's my review: This book was informative and interesting! I love it when authors take a piece of history and create an amazing fictional story. FDR is one of the presidents that I admire and this book showcased his leadership abilities and his dedication to the United States of America. Lizzie is an exceptional woman! She's an advocate, a confidant, and extremely loyal. She stayed with FDR literally until the end. We need more people in the world like Lizzie!
