I always enjoy a book written by Marta Perry! She creates such wonderful stories with characters that touch my heart! Here's my review:
I loved this book so much! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday so a book revolving around Thanksgiving made my heart sing! I enjoy Marta Perry's writing and how she brings her characters to life!
I can honestly say that I liked all of the characters! Their personalities engaged me and I genuinely cared about their lives. Rebecca is AMAZING! She's a single mother to twins: James and Joanna. I like her parenting style. She's a great mother but not a helicopter mother. Her children are her joy but she also loves the orchard that her grandfather left her to take care of. Grossmammi is adorable! She's always ready to help and to lend an ear. Nathan is a little standoffish. Once his past is revealed, his gruff nature actually is covering up a warm and tender heart. Peter touched my heart the most. His father has passed away, his mother left him and he's stuck with his older brother Nathan. It's great how he finds a way to fit in with Rebecca's family and soon becomes a beloved neighbor and friend.
One thing that really stuck out to me is how Rebecca kept forgiving Abel. He could have caused a lot of harm when he was trying to be the hero. Rebecca forgave him and didn't make him feel less than. I also liked the ending. Rebecca and Nathan had to overcome their painful pasts but when they let their heart lead, they found their forever love!
Here's my review: This book was informative and interesting! I love it when authors take a piece of history and create an amazing fictional story. FDR is one of the presidents that I admire and this book showcased his leadership abilities and his dedication to the United States of America. Lizzie is an exceptional woman! She's an advocate, a confidant, and extremely loyal. She stayed with FDR literally until the end. We need more people in the world like Lizzie!
